AS PROMISED IN CAPITOL UPDATE #34 AND OUR ACTION ALERT: OUR UPDATE ON ACA 1 and ACA 13. These bills (Constitutional Amendments) want to change voter approval thresholds from 2/3 to 55%.

OUR REVIEW OF SIGNED AND VETOED BILLS FOR 2023 CONTINUES: AB 223 by Assembly Member Chris Ward (D Coronado) Change of gender and sex identifier. This bill was signed by the Governor on September 23, 2023.

The governor has completed his bill review by the required October 14th deadline and has left California for interesting travels to Israel and China.

October 14th has come and gone: Governor’s deadline to sign, veto, or allow to become law without his signature. The California Legislature introduced 3036 bills in this 2023 session. 

SB 686 - Existing law establishes within the Department of Industrial Relations the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement and the Division of Occupational Safety and Health, with duties and powers, as prescribed.

The California State Legislature passed two constitutional amendments on Sept. 14, 2023, that would change voter approval thresholds for certain ballot measures. Both constitutional amendments will appear on the ballot in Nov. 2024.

The California State Legislature convened its 2023 legislative session on December 5, 2022. The legislature is scheduled to adjourn on September 14, 2023. The legislators serving in this session took office following the 2022 elections. Democrats won a 32-8 majority in the Senate and a 62-18 majority in the Assembly.

AB 799, as amended, Homelessness: financing plan. This is called the Homelessness Accountability and Results Act and specifies that the California Interagency on Homelessness to develop a financing plan to solve homelessness by the year 2035
